Before we plan work orders, it helps to have the work types ready: winterisation, maintenance, repair, antifouling… When we open a work order we'll pick them, and the list can be filtered. In Settings there is no screen with this title: they are managed as TASKS tags. On the work-order form the field is called TAGS.
There are two places, and we need both:
Create the task tags: SETTINGS → CONFIGURATION → TAGS, TASKS column. Colour and types are detailed in Tags.
Assign them to the work order: in JOBS, we'll press +. In NEW DOCUMENT, with type WORK ORDER, the TAGS dropdown shows those work types.
The rest of the create fields is in Create work orders.
The work-order tag classifies the job as a whole (maintenance, winterisation, repair…). It does not fill chapters or lines: that is a template.
We won't confuse it with:
Task or document template: a job already assembled (chapters, lines, checklists). See Templates and email.
Contact, vessel or crew tags: same Settings screen, other columns. A customer VIP is not a work-order type. See Tags.
Labour / professional category: the technician's rate when they clock time. See Default professional category.
Catalog category: the family of a spare. See Set up catalog categories.
We'll go to SETTINGS → CONFIGURATION → TAGS and stay in the TASKS column.
We'll add the ones the yard really uses, with a short name that admin and technicians understand the same way (maintenance, winterisation, repair, haul-out…).
When we create a work order, we'll open TAGS and tick the type. If it isn't in the dropdown, it's missing from that Tags column — not from Templates or the catalog.
💡 Tip: We'll agree on a few types and we won't create one per boat. The work order already has customer, vessel and title.
Renaming a tag does not magically rewrite old work orders: new ones will use the new name.
If the team filters “winterisation only” and nothing appears, either the type is not assigned on those work orders, or it used to be named differently.
A winterisation template (168) and the tag “Winterisation” complement each other: the tag classifies; the template fills the content.
